We all need a little help

I was able to spend a few hours away from the house today with my mum wondering around the downtown area of Drumheller. Papa stayed at home with the kids, once Parker went for a nap mum and I took off.

There’s some cute little shops in the downtown area of Drumheller, with dinosaurs sitting on the benches or hanging off the buildings or painted on the walls. The only problem like a lot of small towns is that there are not enough shopping businesses to keep you busy. You had to walk about 4 blocks to see 5 stores, which really wont keep people coming back honestly. One store was great, had lots of neat things to look at but of course also had the typical tourist stuff. See that’s the problem (in my humble opinion) with tourist towns. All the shops look alike, sell the same things, and price everything much to high. Your better off going to the actual Royal Tyrell Museum to buy your stuffed dinosaur.

Being away from the kids, even though I want free time all the time, is hard. It’s actually difficult to go anywhere without them. I am a full time momma who has at least one at all times. For everything. From shopping to seeing the gynaecologist (stroller angle and iPad is how that works). Yes I am that mom who always has her kids with her. Is it a problem? For me no, for others probably. Do I have a choice? No. I don’t have a choice. We don’t have family close by and we don’t have anyone that can just watch the kids. Because my husband works over a hour away we cant justify a missed day of work for a one hour in the middle of the day doctors appointment. So remember that when your in a place you really don’t think there should be any children. For some people child care is not always an option.

Every store I went into today I had the same thought. My first thought is always, could a stroller fit in here? But the thing is, if a stroller cant fit through the door, or go up the stairs to get a cup of coffee, how are we making things more accessible for people. Because in reality I don’t have to have a stroller, I want it, to keep them contained. If i had mobility issues though, there are a ton of places whether in small towns or large cities, that are not easy to maneuver through. I even saw a sign that said “no strollers”, does that mean no wheel chairs? I know not every store or restaurant is meant to have children, but I think we need to actually take a look at the fact that there is a large part of our population that can not actually go into a clothing store and look at all the clothes because their wheel chair doesnt fit between the racks.

So there’s my random thoughts for the day. Let’s break it down haha. It’s hard to leave your kids even when you want time away. Stores need to start being accessible for EVERYONE. Not just those able to walk through clothing racks! It’s not just side walks people. Be kind. We’re all just trying to make it.

Much love
